Abdul-Raqeeb Salam

Professor Abdul Raqeeb Salam was born in 1976, and his talent for drawing flourished since his early childhood, which represented the cornerstone of his artistic career beginning in the visual arts of calligraphy, design, and decoration.

He learned Arabic calligraphy from artist Hashem Al-Baghdadi’s pamphlet, also he learned and benefited from Turkish ancient calligraphers, and traced them so he become a well-known calligrapher in the Arabic calligraphy world.

He worked as a teacher of Arabic drawing and calligraphy in several private schools, institutes, and centers, taught Arabic calligraphy at Technical School, and Community College, and taught the art of Islamic decoration to Sana’a University students (Graphic Department).

He established with Yemeni elite calligraphers the Calligraphers Association and was appointed as Secretary-General.

He calligraphed the lines of the Presidency House – the Republic of Yemen, Yemeni Mosques, including the Al-Firdaws Mosque. He participated as a calligrapher of the largest Quran in the world. He participated in a famous calligraphers’ forum ( Quran) .

Professor Abdul Raqeeb Salam’s memberships, a member of the Iraqi Calligraphers Association in Baghdad, a member of the Egyptian General Assembly for the Art of Arabic Calligraphy, a founding member of the International Federation for the Art of Arabic Calligraphy and Islamic Ornamentation, and the President of the International Federation for the Art of Arabic Calligraphy, Yemen Branch.

He was granted two licenses in Arabic calligraphy from Professor Walid Al-Adhami and Professor Youssef Al-Mawsili, He authored Al-Qalam Al-Yamani’s calligraphy pamphlet, which collection of Arabic calligraphy types.

Participated in a number of international, Arab and local events (Turkey, Syria, Sharjah, Algeria, Madinah and Dubai), and a number of Arabic calligraphers were taught by him whom they became distinguished international calligraphers.
